A Tale of Two Monsters

On December 28, 2003, I wrote an article titled A Tale of Two Beasts.  Since then significant developments proved the focal point.  I thought this is the right time to update it for the current crisis in the Middle East.  Please click on this link http://laal.org/ea/Beasts.htm to read the above mentioned article for historical parts.  Just keep in mind that monsters make their own rules, one of which is not to notify you and I of their existence!  By the time we figure them out, they are already repealed for the new ones that we have to find a clue for!  Before taking it sarcastically, just look at Bush administration’s numerous abuses of power in relation to the law of the land.  It is not funny.  Let’s go back 10 presidents for a background.

In addition to using the first atomic bomb against innocent civilians, Harry S Truman, the 33rd president of the United States of America carries in his legacy being the first to recognize the state of Israel only 11 minutes after its creation on May 14, 1948.  He did it in spite of significant disagreement with the secretary of state, George Marshal, who foresaw the conflict in relation with the Muslim world.  In fact, not only the U.S. was widely respected in the region prior to that date, but also had it not been for Truman’s Support of Zionism, Jews could have figured out a way to live in peace with Christians and Muslims in the region.

Not too long before him, France did its share to mandate Lebanon a part of Syria only to divide it later at will.  However, Germany occupied France in WWII, and Lebanese ceased the opportunity to gain independence.  Soon Lebanon prospered enough to position its capital Beirut as an attractive regional center for education, trade, tourism and finance.  Nonetheless, Lebanon was against partitioning Palestine.  In fact, Lebanon attempted a futile attack on Israel the very next day of its creation on May 15, 1948.  Soon the newly created Israel forced Palestinians to flee their homeland.  Tens of thousands of them took refuge in Lebanon.  So a triangle of armed confrontation sealed the fate of Israeli, Palestinian, and Syrian people leading to a unique civil war.  Lebanon became the battle ground for invading forces of Israel in which massacre of innocent civilians made it a slaughter house.

Ironically it was Truman who said “I believe that it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures.”!  Obviously he never considered Palestinians, Lebanese or people of any Middle Eastern country a free people nor he thought of Zionists as an armed minority, and finally he could not envision his support of Zionism as outside pressure to Arabs in his wildest dream!  Otherwise he would not have said “I believe that we must assist free peoples to work out their own destinies in their own way.”

The hypocrisy was in the making to become the policy of the U.S. to support an “armed minority” rule over people not only in Israel-Palestine relation, but also in every country in the region.  The “outside pressure” was defined as any country other than the U.S. meddling in the internal affairs of a target country.  That is one of the fundamental domains of definition for the U.S. foreign policy towards the Middle Eastern countries as is the concept of submission for interpreting peace.  Truman must have expected the Muslim world to abandon their rich cultural and socio political heritage and eventually SUBMIT themselves to the will of the white man as did Native American Indians or African Americans who were still second class citizens, if not slaves, in his time.

His expectation was as baseless as Bush’s postulation of Iraq.  The Muslim world was, and still is, a rich multi cultural, multi ethnic world where people coexisted in peace within their own boundaries for centuries.  Yes, there ware tensions and wars amongst different Islamic nations as it was the case throughout the world.  But take Lebanon as an example.  Lebanese Muslims and Christians along with other ethnic and religious minorities cooperated to gain their independence from France, and made their Capital Beirut the Paris of Middle East in just five years.  So it is as wrong as it is stupid to blame Muslims, Christians or Jews for the crisis in the region because they coexisted with each other and numerous other minorities for centuries.  That was also the case during the reign of Ottoman Empire.  It was the “divide and conquer” policy of European imperialism followed by the United States of America for the region’s natural resources that created the mess.  Consequently, resisting western pressure gained deep roots in the political literature of the region.

Thus, the definition for “resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities” fell in the category of terrorism.  In June 1982 Israel invaded Lebanon and the UN Security Council condemned the act, but Reagan supported Ariel Sharon as the Israeli Minister of Defense who was later found personally responsible for the Sabra and Shatila massacre of several hundred people.  It happened in the same year when Hezbollah was formed to resist the Israeli occupation.  Some 20 years later George W Bush called Sharon a man of peace!  It took him a few more years for the mess he created in Iraq to curse Hezbollah in the G8 meeting last month.

While the student of current history is confused by ever increasing foreign policy redefinitions for the book in the making, foreign beneficiaries waste no time in licking the cream out of the churning process.  That is why some organized religious war profiteers ignore explicit biblical verses such as Exodus 23:7 “Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked.” to exclude the enemy during a time of battle and war.  In other words, enemy’s women and children are not protected by the scripture.

At a time when international rule of law is mostly applicable against countries that reject bandwagoning, Zionists conveniently bomb the UN camp, killing UN staff to redefine mistaking targets.  The UN is helpless, because nothing can stop the U.S. support for Israel.  Even if a resolution is watered down to avoid the almighty veto; and it is passed against the little monster, it will not be worth the paper because it will have no chance to be enforced.  The controlled media will bypass such news as if it never happened.  If not, it will land on Bill O’Reilly desk of no spin zone to be fine toned for making yet another point that the UN is irrelevant!  If you wonder whether it was ever relevant, read this paragraph again.

However, the world has changed.  Warmongers grip on the controlled media is not as firm on the internet nor can they undo the effect of public demonstrations world wide as they wish.   So they need different schemes to minimize such effects.  Demonizing freedom fighters by offensive vocabulary does not cover self inflicted evil work.  That is when war profiteers capitalize on their ever present organized religious wings such as Yesha Rabbinical Council to issue a statement supporting outright atrocities “All of the discussions on Christian morality are weakening the spirit of the army and the nation and are costing us in the blood of our soldiers and civilians”.  In other words, suppress your consciousness or divert your Christian morality to other issues like the stem cell research, and let the army do the dirty work of killings indiscriminately.

The enemy’s civilians including women and children are not innocent, but rather oppressors’ assets to terrorize the oppressed.  They mean business and no bar is hold.  No matter how many times they commit the same crime against humanity, they always claim it is once and for all.  As Dick Cheney put it let other people take care of the mess afterward.  The monstrous PR is capable of exhausting the most remote application of collateral damage to include intentional killing of civilians for the greater good!

Dick Cheney must have envied Arab sheiks in their despotism to devote his time and energy for making the high office of presidency strong; strong enough to be accountable to no one.  He is not a selfish man because he lacks political ambition beyond the office of vice presidency.  Yet he went a long way to turn the institution of presidency into a monstrous office for many emperors to come.  The question, however, remains unanswered whether dark aged rule of engagements for imperialism can be applied to our information age civilization.

Zbigniew Brzezinski, the former US national security adviser, bluntly negates it: "Neocon prescriptions [of use of force to try to change things unilaterally] of which Israel has its equivalents, are fatal for America and ultimately for Israel. They will totally turn the overwhelming majority of the Middle East's population against the United States. The lessons of Iraq speak for themselves. Eventually, if neocon policies continue to be pursued, the United States will be expelled from the region and that will be the beginning of the end for Israel as well."

Thanks to despicable arrogance of Israel, and the United States, and despite the ghoul’s wicked scheme in American media to paint it differently, Hitler is turned to a disputed historical beast.  Western imposed democracy is no longer appealing in the region because native power wielders are selective in human rights abuses.  They fear regime change; so while they hunt their enemies / rivals, they are open to reform.  Westerners come organized and well equipped, but they kill innocent civilians in the process.

In the eyes of the world, George W Bush joins Harry S Truman for becoming the only two monsters of our time; especially if Israel is pushed to the corner in such a way to ignite another use of atomic bombs.  War profiteers can no longer shift the blame to an evil empire because it is no more.  Bush’s stupid war on terror backfired in his face because no war has ever caused peace.  No good people in the region find it rewarding to follow his double talk of supporting Israeli terrorism while blaming a resistance group for terror.  JOB 9:29 “If I be wicked, why then I labor in vain”.  His legacy is his turning against the very people who sympathized with American people after 9/11 tragedy, and making America the most hated nation in the process.  Putting it in biblical terms one cannot forgo the argument JOB makes against the almighty for an analogy:

JOB 9:24 “The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covers the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?”
